New stethoscope may detect heart disease at an early stage

Heart disease is a killer and so many people have underlying heart defects which cause their heart to stop beating all of a sudden and it is estimated that 2 people under the age of 35 die every week in the Irish Republic from undiagnosed heart defects. It is for this very reason that a vast amount of research is being conducted in order to find a tool which lets us diagnose heart disease including coronary artery disease much sooner. A university in Dublin has been investigating a brand new sensitive stethoscope which has the ability to hear a much wider range of heart sounds than a normal stethoscope.
However scientists are expecting this to be a difficult process due to the large variation in sounds from the heart. The new stereo Stethoscope has a total of 6 microphones which have the ability to detect the loocation and type of fault. Cardiologists and scientists are working hard on the instrument in a dublin hospital.
It is anticipated that this new stethoscope will be able to be used in GP surgeries at some stage in the future. This should help cut down on the number of sudden deaths from underlying heart defects.
